The Saudi Food and Drug Authority has explored opportunities to benefit from the experience of the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) in Dublin in supporting local biotechnology companies, with the aim of transferring these successful experiences to the Kingdom. This came during the visit of a delegation from the Authority headed by CEO, Dr. Hisham bin Saad Aljadhey, to the institute, aiming at strengthening relations with similar international bodies. During the visit, both sides discussed aspects of cooperation in capacity building and applied training in bio-manufacturing, including the transfer of analytical technology and provision of reference standards. The institute is a global center providing unique training and research solutions for the biopharmaceutical industry, and its mission is to support the biopharmaceutical industry by providing an educational experience in an advanced environment and conducting pioneering research in key areas of pharmaceutical manufacturing. It is noteworthy that the SFDA has paid great attention to biotechnology; due to its importance in the future of food and drug production, in addition to its rapid growth globally and the dependence of many countries on it in agriculture, food and pharmaceutical products, and in line with that. This technology was launched in its laboratories to ensure the effectiveness, quality, and safety of these products.
