U.S. President George W. Bush heads to Europe on a major diplomatic initiative starting Sunday, February 20, and he will visit Germany, Belgium and Slovakia. Although many details of the programme have not been announced, he was expected to meet French President Jacques Chirac for dinner Monday night in Brussels, before he attends the NATO and European Union summit on Tuesday, February 22. Bush was expected in Mainz, Germany, on Wednesday, where he was to meet with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, and perhaps will visit U.S. troops in nearby Wiesbaden. Bush was expected to continue on to Bratislava, Slovakia, Wednesday evening, where he was to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
