baden, Germany, Feb. 13, SPA -- U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton appealed Sunday for members of the NATO alliance to "stand firm" as she received the German Media Prize at a ceremony in the southern city of Baden-Baden. The former U.S. first lady was the first active politician to receive the award, which was created and funded by Media Control, a German company that compiles top of the pops lists, and is awarded on a vote by leading newspaper editors. Clinton, 57, used her acceptance speech to praise the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance (NATO), saying: "We should stand firm in our friendship." She appealed for mutual respect within the alliance, saying the war against extremism could only be won jointly. --SP 2324 Local Time 2024 GMT
