A delegation from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), led by Director of East African Operations Department at the SFD Azzam Al-Barrak, participated today in the opening ceremony of Phalombe District Hospital project in the Republic of Malawi, under the patronage of President Lazarus Chakwera of the Republic of Malawi, where the SFD contributed to financing it with a $12 million loan. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Health of Malawi, and a number of senior officials. The project, which was inaugurated in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Malawi, aims to provide 250 medical beds and health care to the people of villages and rural areas in Phalombe district, as it will serve more than 330,000 people. The project will also contribute to reducing diseases and children's mortality rates and developing the health sector in Malawi. On this occasion, the Minister of Health of Malawi expressed her sincere thanks and gratitude for the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's government, represented by the SFD, in supporting the health sector in Malawi, stressing that this hospital, with a total cost of about $26 million, will contribute significantly to strengthening the health care sector in Malawi through the high-quality health services that it will provide to the residents of the southern region of Malawi.
