The 8th G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit kicked off in Jakarta under the theme: "Recover Together, Recover Stronger" with the participation of a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia headed by Speaker of the Shura Council Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, in the presence of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco, and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Puan Maharani. President Widodo delivered the opening speech and welcomed speakers of the parliaments, stressing the strategic importance of the group that seeks to solve all problems facing the world's population, referring to the significance of communication among all countries to realize economic recovery and create a more prosperous and developed world. For his part, Pacheco stressed the importance of these parliamentary meetings in supporting the efforts of G20 countries in facing international events, out of the big power of the group that enables it to respond to crises, reiterating the importance of enhancing multilateral cooperation that guarantees a sustainable development and comprehensive peace for the entire world, stressing the IPU's support to all efforts of the G20. Also, Maharani welcomed the speakers of the G20 parliaments participating in the summit, noting that this summit can find sustainable solutions and move forwards in realizing the G20 agenda, praising the roles of the G20 countries. Later on, the delegates of the Shura Council participated in sessions accompanying the summit, which addressed means to speed up sustainable development, green economy and emergency issues related to food security, energy and economic challenges, as well as the role of parliaments in addressing these issues.
