Rescuers have recovered 80 bodies from floodwaters in a southwestern province where heavy rains caused a large dam to burst, sending torrents of water through towns and villages and sweeping hundreds of people into the Arabian sea, an official said Saturday. "Coast guards have so far pulled out 80 bodies from the floodwaters with fishing nets, while 400 are still missing," said Sher Jan Baluch, a provincial minister in Baluchistan province. The 150-meter- (490-foot) long Shakidor Dam burst late Thursday near remote Pasni village in Baluchistan, about 1,900 kilometers (1,180 miles) southwest of the capital, Islamabad. Villages on the outskirts of Pasni were the worst hit, Baluch said, adding that more than 1,500 survivors had been plucked from the water there. The military said some 500 people had been evacuated from remote areas nearby.
