Ahead of Friday's vote, opposition leaders attacked his cabinet for failing to boost income and declining standards in healthcare and education. They also questioned a number of deals, including a billion dollar highway deal awarded without a tender in December and the failed sale of state tobacco firm Bulgartabak, over which Parliament Speaker Ognian Gerdzhikov was forced to quit last week.
