German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, ailing with the flu, has canceled plans to attend a town hall-style meeting Friday evening with counterparts from Spain and France to promote the European constitution, the German Embassy said. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, also due to attend, pulled out Wednesday for the same reason. That leaves Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and French President Jacques Chirac as the remaining members of the original cast of four for the public meeting at a Barcelona theater. Spain holds a referendum on the constitution Feb. 20.
