Costa Rican President Abel Pacheco was taken to a hospital Thursday in San Jose after suffering from chest pain, his personal physician said. Pacheco's physician, cardiologist Eduardo Saenz, told Radio Monumental that the 71-year-old Pacheco was ordered to hospital after suffering from chest pain and sweating. Saenz said Pacheco's condition was "stable". He said the Costa Rican president would remain hospitalized for two days to carry out tests and examinations. Legislator Ricardo Toledo, who is close to the president, said that Pacheco apparently was suffering from heart failure. However, Toledo said Pacheco told him to tell Costa Ricans that the "he was well". Since he took office in May 2002 Pacheco has faced some health problems as he suffers from diabetes and hypertension.
