There was some progress at the Nice meeting in NATO's quest to bring the number of military instructors on Iraqi soil to its declared goal of 300, with both Spain and Romania offering to train Iraqi soldiers. A NATO spokesman said Spain would train Iraq soldiers at a site near Madrid, while Romania offered to send instructors to Iraq. This brings the total number of instructors offered by 26 NATO member nations to 110. The spokesman said that NATO hoped to add another 160 instructors to that total "in the near future".
