The governor of Iraq's troubled Anbar province escaped an assassination attempt Thursday when a roadside bomb exploded near his car, police said. The blast narrowly missed Gov. Fassal Qaoud al-Namrawi's vehicle shortly after he left his house in the insurgent-stronghold of Ramadi, the capital city of the western Anbar province. No one in the car was hurt, but his bodyguards opened fire after the blast, wounding a woman bystander, police said.
