In yet another remarkable achievement, Saudi ports are on top of global indicators, as 3 of Saudi ports are leading the second edition of the Container Port Performance Index 2021 (CPPI 2021), an indicator produced by the Transport Global Practice of the World Bank in collaboration with the Maritime, Trade and Supply Chain division of S&P Global Market Intelligence, which is intended to serve as reference point for improvement for key stakeholders in the global economy. Despite the unprecedented challenges of 2021, which effected the world on every aspect, according to the CPPI, the 3 Saudi ports record exceptional scores that indicate ports' performance efficiency, as the King Abdullah Port ranks 1st on the list of 370 global ports, while Jeddah Islamic Port ranks 8th, and King Abdulaziz Port placed at 14th, reflecting an outstanding performance within the maritime transport in Saudi Arabia. "Saudi ports accomplishment in the CPPI 2021 portrays the Kingdom's leading position in the global maritime transport industry, as it reflects the ambitious efforts of national industries to position Saudi Arabia as global logistics hub, and a link that connects three continents, under the patronage of HRH the Crown Prince to develop transport and logistics services industry in the Kingdom, and achieve the socioeconomic ambitions" Said Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and the Chairman of Mawani, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser. As Al-Jasser emphasized that the ports and maritime transport sector are on a clear path towards achieving the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, in line with Saudi Vision 2030, which will contribute to utilizing the Kingdom's strategic location, to diversify the sources of the national economy, along with increasing the competitiveness and productivity, which will greatly support the national economy, gross domestic product, and achieve sustainability. While President of Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) Omar Hariri noted Saudi ports' achievements on the CPPI 2021 which outdone the results of 2020, where King Abdullah Ports rank increased from the 2nd position to the 1st , Jeddah Islamic Port from 55th position to the 8th, and King Abdulaziz Port which jumped to the 14th, surpassing 88 ranks from last year's report, as result of Mawani's efforts of enabling operations, enhancing customers' experience, and ensuring an effective, reliable commercial and regulatory environment. In light of this remarkable accomplishment, Mawani aims to continue the efforts of developing the maritime transport in Saudi Arabia, by enabling Saudi ports, forming more strategic partnerships, increasing competitiveness, and enhancing the infrastructure, to develop a sustainable and prosperous maritime sector.
