Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf has welcomed the announcement of High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on accrediting the joint action paper for the European Parliament and European Commission regarding the "Strategic partnership with the Gulf", with the aim of expanding and enhancing the EU cooperation with GCC, which was announced today. The secretary general voiced GCC's keenness to enhance the strategic Gulf-European partnership and boost them in all fields to better serve joint interests and cooperation in bilateral and regional issues, in addition to efforts aimed at enhancing security and prospects of sustainable development. He also expressed aspiration to exert efforts to translate the content of the strategic partnership document and to enhance the cooperation agreement signed between the two sides in 1988, which seeks to develop the Gulf-European relations to wider scopes to better serve joint interests, maintain security and stability in the region, utilize economic opportunities, boost commercial and investment cooperation, push forwards in the negotiations of the free trade, and enhance coordination and partnership in facing challenges threatening international security and stability.
