Severe wildfires in the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk have caused seven deaths and injured 19 people as of Sunday, the dpa reported. Six of those injured are firefighters, the Krasnoyarsk administration told TASS news agency. Three people, including two children, were killed in the village of Talashanka, some 200 kilometres north of the city of Krasnoyarsk. Two more deaths were in the village of Nikolsk, some 300 kilometres west of Krasnoyarsk. Two further people were killed on Saturday in a fire in the city of Atshinsk west of Krasnoyarsk. The region has called a state of emergency due to the fires. Efforts to extinguish them have been made difficult by strong winds with gusts of up to 40 metres per second. Authorities say all fires have now been contained. There were 273 fires in the area and more than 500 houses destroyed.
