U.S. authorities downplayed fears Friday that a group of Chinese nationals have smuggled a dirty bomb into the country and plan to detonate it in Boston. Security officials said they were skeptical of the anonymous tip police in California received concerning four individuals who were accused of bringing radioactive material with them across the U.S.- Mexican border. However, they are actively seeking 10 people for questioning in the matter. Half the 10 are Chinese, and the other half have unknown nationalities. "We want to stress to everyone that at this time, that the threat information is uncorroborated and of unknown reliability and that all law enforcement agencies are working together to address the issue," said Bill Carter, spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino both have attempted to reassure the public that the tip is uncorroborated and that people should feel perfectly safe. FBI officials released the names of 10 people they would like to question regarding the tip and asked the public to assist them in their search. --SP 0010 Local Time 2110 GMT
