Subtitling Workshop, held at the Translation Forum, discussed today a number of topics including subtitling strategies, constraints among others. The presenter of the workshop, Dr. Abrar Mujaddidi, covered a number of strategies namely simplifying verbal periphrasis, generalising enumerations and using a shorter near-synonym. Also, discussions included the strategies involved in the translation of subtitling including expansion, paraphrase, transfer, limitation, transcription and deletion. She highlighted different subtitling constraints. Participants were highly engaged with a discussion on using subtitling software.
