Quds city, Jan 7, SPA -- Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, leading a team of observers monitoring Palestinian presidential elections, on Friday called for a peaceful vote and said he is hopeful the new Palestinian leadership will help end violence in the area. Carter and a delegation from the Washington-based National Democratic Institute will be observing the vote at 220 polling stations, he said after a meeting with Israeli President Moshe Katsav. Carter expressed hope that smooth elections would be a precursor to the resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
