The 17th General Assembly of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) began its deliberations here today under the chairmanship of Yemen's Minister of Education Dr. Abdulsalam Mohammed Aljoafi. Dr. Mohammed Alahmed Alrasheed, the Saudi Minister of Education, led his country's delegation to the meeting. The opening ceremony was attended by ministers of education in the Arab countries; the Saudi Ambassador to Tunisia Ahmed bin Ali Algahtani; the Director General of ESCESCO Dr. Abdulaziz Altuwaijri; Director General of UNESCO Kusheru Matsura; Director General of Arab Gulf Countries Education Bureau Dr. Saeed bin Mohammed Almilais; Prince Khalid Alfaisal, the Secretary General of the Arab Thought Foundation; and Saudi Arabia's permanent representative to ALECSO Abdulaziz Albabtain. The three-day event is scheduled to discuss a number of papers on issues of great concern to educational planners in the Arab world.
