The Secretary-General of the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) Dr. Mansour Al-Shammari, has participated, virtually, in a high-level conference on combating terrorism, as part of the United Nations activities for Counter-Terrorism Week 2021. In his speech at the event which took place yesterday, Dr. Al-Shammari addressed ways and means of partnerships to confront and combat violent extremism, pointing out that the diversity of attendees for this conference confirms that everyone shares one goal to confront extremist ideology, which threatens the security and stability of the planet, as the existence of its danger forces all of us to cooperate and participate. He said that since the inauguration of Etidal in May 2017, we believe in the importance of cooperation and partnership with countries and organizations that work to combat extremism and spread peace, and that addressing the phenomenon of extremism requires concerted efforts in one global message to confront it for a secure reality and protection for future generations. He asserted the keenness to sign a memorandum of understanding on April 1 with the United Nations Center for Counter-Terrorism (UNCCT), reiterating the continuation of efforts and contributing to the success of the UN counter-terrorism strategy, working to diversify and invest our partnerships, and openness to the world as a whole. The Secretary-General invited the participants to visit the center's headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to see its efforts closely, to discuss ways of cooperation and partnerships, and to benefit from the center's expertise in this field.
