The governments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Greece agreed today to strengthen ties through tourism and travel facilitation between the two countries. The Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khatib, and his Greek counterpart Harry Theoharis, signed a joint action plan, in the Tourism Revitalization Summit in Riyadh, in recognition of the importance of tourism in the economic development of both countries, and preparing a joint action plan with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the Kingdom and Greece, citing the following areas: exchange of best practices in the field of tourism promotion, the development of specialized tourism such as medical tourism, shopping tourism, luxury tourism, sport and adventure tourism, and gastronomic tourism, encouraging investment across the tourism system, exchanging knowledge about tourism legislation including licensing and classification procedures, strengthening air connectivity between Athens and Riyadh, in addition to other pivotal airports, and the continuation of active participation in multilateral activities. The two ministers stressed the importance of establishing mechanisms for mutual use of vaccination certificates, in order to promote safe and smooth travel between the two countries.
