Khulays Governorate is one of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's governorates and regions that are distinguished by their rich heritage and traditions. People of Khulays Governorate prepare and decorate homes in order to enjoy an overwhelming spirituality during Ramadan. They also enjoy family gatherings and purchase food supplies to prepare their traditional foods that many are keen on within Iftar (Breaking-fast) and Suhour meals. During Ramadan, Khulays Governorate people are keen on meeting with family members at the home of the head of the family, as they provide special costumes for children to express their joy on the advent of the Holy month of Ramadan. The housewives also wear special dresses during Ramadan. As for the traditional popular foods in Khulays, they vary between dishes of corn soup, Al-Khawada, a dish made of millet flour mixed with pure ghee, Luqaimat, Sambosa and Talbina soup. Sports activities also increase during Ramadan, mostly after Taraweeh prayer. Since Khulays Governorate is close to Makkah, where the distance is about 100 km, people take this as an advantage to visits and prayer at the Grand Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan, nevertheless due to the exceptional circumstances of COVID-19 pandemic, preventive and precautionary measures must be adhered to.
