Nigerian authorities postponed local government elections in some areas around the ethnically divided oil city of Warri by a day to Friday after voting materials arrived late, officials said on Thursday. The chairman of the Delta State independent electoral commission, James Omo-Agege, announced the postponement after leaders of the Ijaw ethnic group accused the ruling party of trying to rig the result in favour of their rivals, the Itsekiri. "Voting will continue tomorrow in the morning in Warri South and some wards in other areas where there was no voting. The materials arrived late," Omo-Agege said, adding that voting had taken place in Warri North. Omo-Agege had earlier said voting was under way in Warri South, which includes the Warri metropolis, despite witness accounts that no voting took place at all as polling stations had no materials or electoral officers.
