An oil worker was injured when gunmen opened fire on a group of engineers and technicians repairing a pipeline in northern Iraq, a spokesman said Wednesday. The men were part of a team sent out Tuesday to repair the main northern oil pipeline in the Safrah area, 80 kilometers (50 miles) southwest of Kirkuk, said a company official who spoke on condition of anonymity. The pipeline, which has been sabotaged repeatedly in recent months, carries crude oil to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, he said. Separately, three Iraqi National Guardsmen were wounded Wednesday when insurgents ambushed their vehicle in northwest of Kirkuk, Brig. Gen. Sarhad Qader said. A roadside bomb exploded as the government troops were heading to the Northern Oil Company's headquarters, he said.
