Saudi Press: Private Sector's Contribution to the GDP to Increase to 65% with Privatization System
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 18 - 03 - 2021

Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas.
Al-Eqtisadiah, Al-Bilad and Al-Yaum newspapers reported in their editorials that the Cabinet's approval of the Privatization System completes the comprehensive work system and the pillars of the Privatization Program. The Privatization Program, one of the most important programs of Saudi Vision 2030, receives great attention both globally and locally. It is one of the most important goals of Vision 2030 and accordingly several other goals are based on it, including developing local content, empowering the private sector and expanding its economic participation.
The Privatization Program includes three important pillars, namely: the legal and regulatory pillar, laying institutional framework and the third is concerned with initiatives, the papers added.
The newspapers pointed to the statement of Minister of Finance, Acting Minister of Economy and Planning, Chairman of the Privatization Program Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Privatization (NCP) Mohammed Al-Jadaan. The minister said that Privatization System aims to create an environment that allows raising the volume and level of services provided to citizens and residents and to establish the necessary flexibility in the regulatory and investment environment for privatization projects in Saudi Arabia, in a way that supports and enhances the implementation of these projects within a regulatory, attractive and stimulating investment environment for the short and long term investments.
The developed system for privatization will achieve a package of qualitative results in favor of economic and human development, including privatization initiatives in 16 targeted government sectors, which will contribute to raising the private sector's contribution to the GDP to 65%, the newspapers further added.
The system is based on ambitious goals, the best practices and experiences gained locally through the implementation of successful privatization projects that have achieved the goals of privatization over the past few years, the newspapers concluded.
In another context, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported in its editorial that the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militia continues its crimes against civilians in Yemen, which included African immigrants, as the world witnessed a few days ago the massacre committed by the militia in a detention center.
The newspaper pointed to the Human Rights Watch statement regarding this incident as saying " today migrants burned to death in Yemen on March 7, 2021, after Houthi militias launched unidentified projectiles into an immigration detention center in Sanaa, causing a fire." Human Rights Watch also called to include the incident in ongoing investigation into human rights abuses in the country and allowing humanitarian groups to assist those in need of medical or other aid.
The newspaper added that the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen facilitated the flight of 160 African migrants from Yemen under the auspices of the United Nations, as this confirms the keenness of the coalition and its full and complete cooperation with all United Nations agencies and the humanitarian authorities concerned with the crisis in Yemen, to achieve the supreme goal that the coalition seeks to achieve, which is peace, security and stability in Yemen.
Humanitarian support from the Coalition for Yemen continues under the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which provided the largest aid in the world to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people. Since the beginning of the Yemeni crisis, Saudi Arabia's humanitarian aid to Yemen reached more than USD 17 billion, the newspaper concluded.
