A two-day summit of the Central European Initiative (CEI), gathering representatives of 17 countries, opened Thursday in the Adriatic Slovenian town of Portoroz. The summit was expected to be attended by the prime ministers of Albania, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Poland and Slovakia. The other CEI members were to be represented either by deputy prime ministers or economics ministers. Premiers, including Silvio Berlusconi, were to arrive to Slovenia Friday. Participants were to discuss the situation in the region and the CEI's role after EU enlargement, and endorse the annual report of the director general of the CEI Executive Secretariat and the report on the implementation of the 2004-2006 action plan. Economic issues were also on the agenda.
