Teheran on Friday harshly rejected charges by United States Secretary of State Colin Powell that Iran was "working hard" to develop a delivery system for nuclear weapons. "This is a baseless charge solely reflecting the American anger over the agreement made between Iran and the European Union," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Assefi told the students' news agency ISNA. Reiterating that weapons of mass destruction have no place in Iran's defence doctrine, the spokesman said that the U.S. should change its information sources as such repetitious charges would only further damage U.S. credibility in the world. Powell said Thursday that the U.S. had information suggesting the Iranians were working hard on developing delivery systems to deliver a nuclear warhead. --SP 1330 Local Time 1030 GMT
