U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow praised his Cabinet colleague Colin Powell in an interview broadcast Tuesday, a day after Powell's resignation as Secretary of State was announced. "I haven't had a chance to talk to him but Secretary Powell is a great colleague," Snow told British Broadcasting Corp. radio in an interview recorded late Monday in London. He spoke before news emerged that Condoleezza Rice would replace Powell. "Four years is a long time to serve in a cabinet so all of this is to be expected," added Snow, who is visiting Europe for a series of talks and meetings to discuss the state of the global economy. He plans to deliver a speech at London's Royal Institute of International Affairs on Wednesday. Snow said that while in Europe, he would emphasize the importance of removing barriers to global economic growth. But some Europeans believe the U.S. budget and trade deficits are unsettling financial markets, weakening the dollar and harming European exports. --more 1316 Local Time 1016 GMT
