The Film Commission has announced the nomination of the feature film "Scales" (Sayidat Al Bahr) to officially represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the upcoming Oscar's best international feature 2021, as the film was nominated by a specialized committee. The film will compete with films produced by the rest of the world. It will go through several stages before announcing the final list that will be chosen by the American Academy of Sciences and Arts that awards the Oscars. The winning film will be announced at 93rd Academy Awards that is set to take place on April 25, 2021. Scales is directed by filmmaker Shahad Ameen. It was broadcast for the first time in the Venice Film Festival and won the Verona Film Club Award for most innovative film. It was also shown in other international festivals, in addition to being shown in Saudi Arabia's cinemas. Scales uses a pattern of visual and esthetic effects to show the tale of a girl who seeks to confront a popular legend that controls her own destiny.
