Shipbuilder Aker Yards ASA said Tuesday its decision to combine its shipyards in Finland will mean the loss of 700 jobs, but said more orders, including cruise ship contracts, will mean better-than-expected financial results for 2004. Aker Yards operates three shipyards in Finland and will merge them into one organization. The restructuring, expected to cost between ¤18 million and ¤20 million (US$23.2 million and US$25.8 million), will start this month and be finished by January. Aker Yards is the biggest shipbuilder in Europe and the third largest worldwide. It employs about 14,500 workers in five countries.
