The parliamentary coordination and foreign relations committee of the Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) virtually held in Manama, Bahrain, today its 13th meeting designed to prepare for the 14th meeting of the heads of shura councils, houses of representatives and national chambers of the GCC scheduled to be held next Monday via video communication. Mohammed bin Dakhel Al-Mitairi, Secretary General of the Shura Council, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nahas and Dr. Tareq Al-Shammari represented the Saudi Shura Council in the meeting in addition to other delegates of the legislative councils of the GCC states. The participants congratulated Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, Speaker of the Shura Council, on the formation of the Shura Council under his presidency. They also extended felicitations to Dr. Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Salami as Deputy Speaker of the chamber and Dr. Hanan bint Abdulrahim Al-Ahmadi as Assistant Speaker of the council as well as on the Royal confidence bestowed on the members assigned to the 8th session of council. The meeting reviewed top issues on its agenda, including the GCC-EU parliamentary committee, GCC joint items, putting to discussion the use of renewable energy sources in the Arab countries, the role and impact of scientific research and innovation on sustainable development goals and extraordinary legislations to curb the repercussions of coronavirus crisis on small and medium projects. The meeting also underscored the importance of proceeding with coordination with Latin American parliaments.
