Israel's foreign minister on Sunday urged the Palestinian leadership to take measures to prevent any violence amid fears of Yasser Arafat's failing health, asking for a "move towards peace and understanding with Israel." Silvan Shalom was speaking in Beijing where he was on a four-day visit, during which he was scheduled to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and Premier Wen Jiabao. His trip came as Arafat remained in intensive care in France after a series of tests, the nature of which have not been specified. Doctors have not publicly diagnosed any illness.
