Co-presided by the Saudi Minister of Transport Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser and his Iraqi counterpart Eng. Nasser Hussein Al-Shibly, the Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council's Transport, Border Crossings Committee held meeting here today. During the meeting, issues of mutual interest were discussed, notably, those related to transport, border crossings and ports, in addition to readiness of the Saudi-Iraqi border crossing of Jadidat Araar. On the other hand, Al-Jasser conveyed greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH Crown Prince to the delegates, hailing the historically profound relations binding the two fraternal countries as well as their significance. Jadidat Araar border crossing will, shortly, be opened, and would contribute to back up the Iraqi economy, Al-Jasser stated, adding that pioneer companies have been invited to invest, in Iraq, in so many domains that include naval, land and air transport as well as railways interconnection and reactivation of already scheduled air flights. Activation of the Iraqi Um Qasser seaport maritime route with a host of Saudi seaport was also, tackled, Al-Jasser elaborated. Furthermore, he shed light on the proposal to set up a free trade zone, in Iraq and revamping it. In addition, earlier in the day, the two ministers have held a one-on-one meeting and reviewed aspects of cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Iraq, means to consolidate them and to further promote ways for experiences' exchange, between the two countries, remarkably, within the sector of transport.
