The United States is willing to be flexible in its negotiations with North Korea regarding its nuclear weapons program, the State Department said Wednesday. Richard Boucher, a department spokesman, said during a press briefing it is incorrect to suggest that South Korea and China disagree with the U.S. approach to negotiating with Pyongyang. Boucher accompanied Secretary of State Colin Powell on a three-nation tour, which included discussions about nuclear proliferation on the Korean peninsula. U.S. officials want to resume the six-party talks as soon as possible, according to Boucher. The U.S., China, and South Korea share "a remarkable similarity of views," he added. North Korea, Japan, and Russia are the other participants in the negotiations. "We do understand the need in negotiations to be creative and flexible. We are prepared to go back to the table and listen to what the North Koreans might have to say about our proposal," Boucher said. There is no timetable for resuming the six-party talks, according to Boucher.
