The European Union's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, said Saturday the bloc was ready to help Somalia's newly established transitional government with reconstruction aid. Solana was in the Ethiopian capital for talks with transitional government head President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed on Somalia and the situation in Sudan's Darfur region. Speaking after their talks, he said the E.U. would leave the greater responsibility for security in Somalia to the African Union but the E.U. would assist financially and with other essential logistics, if requested.
