Two car bombs shook the capital in quick succession on Sunday morning, killing at least eight Iraqis and wounding 16, police said. One American soldier was also injured. A minibus packed with explosives detonated near a downtown police academy, killing seven people plus the suicide attacker, Police Cap. Ali Ayez said at the scene. About 15 people were wounded. At least four mangled bodies were strewn in the street amid scattered shoes, papers and a handbag, Associated Press Television News footage showed. Police collected body parts on stretchers. The dead included three police academy students and a female officer, Ayez said. U.S. forces assisted the wounded, including a police recruit who was receiving stitches in his abdomen at the scene. At least eight cars were damaged and shards of glass covered the street.
