A small, unmanned U.S. spy plane crashed Sunday near a Pakistani air force base in the south of the country, police said. The crash occurred near Jacobabad, a town in the southern Sindh province where U.S. forces have been based since 2001, when American-led troops began anti-terror operations in neighboring Afghanistan. Masroor Jatoi, a police superintendent in Jacobabad, said villagers spotted the plane crashing in a field about five kilometers (three miles) from the air base. "We collected the debris of the three-foot (one-meter) plane and handed it over to Pakistani officials at the base," Masroor said. U.S. officials in Jacobabad were not available for comment. At least six U.S. spy drones have crashed near Jacobabad since American forces began using the base, after Pakistan became an ally in the U.S.-led war against terrorism.
