A two-day offensive by U.S. and Iraqi forces to retake the guerrilla stronghold of Samarra killed 125 guerrillas and captured 88, the commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division said on Saturday. Major General John Batiste told CNN in a live interview that U.S. forces had made every effort to minimise civilian casualties. He said operations in the town would continue for several days.
