Marwan Barghouti, a Palestinian uprising leader imprisoned by Israel, will run in Palestinian parliamentary elections expected to take place next year, his wife said Monday. Holding a power of attorney, Barghouti's wife Fadwa, signed up her husband at a voter registration booth in the West Bank city of Ramallah. "Marwan will definitely nominate himself as a candidate," Fadwa Barghouti said. "Israel arrested Marwan to isolate him from the political process. His nomination is a challenge and response to this arrest." Barghouti was first elected to parliament in 1996, headed the ruling Fatah movement in the West Bank and is seen as a potential successor to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
