Russia called on Iran on Monday to fulfill a demand from the U.N. nuclear watchdog that it freeze all work on uranium enrichment, a technology that can be used for nuclear weapons. Iran has called the demand "illegal" and threatened to limit cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency if it moves toward imposing sanctions. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the U.N. agency's resolution on Iran adopted Saturday represented a compromise. "The resolution gives markers on how to remove all the outstanding questions in the optimal way, through cooperation," the ministry said in a statement. "In particular, it addresses an appeal to Tehran to renew the moratorium on all enrichment work. We, too, support this appeal."
