The victim, Hisham Atta Shihase is also the president of the interim council in the province of Diyala. Five bodyguards were wounded in the attack. In Samarra, 100 kilometres north of Baghdad, a suicide car bomber blew up his vehicle near an Iraqi-U.S. patrol Sunday, killing an Iraqi soldier. Three U.S. soldiers and three Iraqi soldiers were wounded in the incident, the U.S. military command in Baghdad said. Four people died attempting to emplace an explosives device Saturday night near the village of Suwayrah, southeast of the Iraqi capital, said a spokesman for multi-national forces in the region.
