Lebanese authorities on Tuesday destroyed 50 tons of illicit drugs, consisting mostly of cannabis and heroine, in the largest such operation in Lebanon, Lebanese police said. The drugs were transported by internal security forces from the Bekaa valley to a dumping site near the village of Rhit in eastern Lebanon and then set on fire, police said. "This is the most important operation Lebanon witnessed," the general prosecutor in the eastern Bekaa valley, judge Abdallah Bitar said. --SP 2220 Local Time 1920 GMT
