President of Nazaha Heads Kingdom's delegation to UNCAC States Parties Conference in UAE

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participates in the meetings of the 8th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) to be held during the period from 16-20 December 2019 in the United Arab Emirates, with a delegation headed by Mr. Mazen bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous the President of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha), with the membership of (State Security, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Public Prosecution, Board of Grievances, and Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency), and number of high level officials in the commission.
The conference will discuss a number of topics, the most important of which are: technical assistance, international cooperation, asset recovery, a review of the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, the role of law and its application in fighting corruption, and a review of the most important opportunities and prominent challenges in this field.
In addition to the representatives of the States parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, a number of specialized international organizations and civil society institutions in the field of transparency, integrity protection and fighting corruption will participate in the side events accompanying the conference.
On the margin of the conference's activities, the Kingdom also holds an exhibition on the Kingdom's most prominent achievements at the local and international levels in fighting corruption and protecting integrity, in addition to two workshops in cooperation with the UAE's State Audit Institution entitled (Best Practices in Follow-up to the Review of the Implementation of the States Parties), and with the participation of the Head of the Anti-Corruption agency in the United Kingdom, and government experts from the UAE. The other workshop was entitled: (Innovative and Scientific Methodologies to raise public awareness of integrity) with the participation of the Deputy Chief Administrative Prosecutor of Egypt and the German Ministry of Interior, and an expert from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Topics of best practices will be discussed to make best use of the Conference of the States Parties, and intergovernmental meetings to improve programs of anti-corruption.
The conference, which is considered the most important international forum on fighting corruption, aims to improve the ability of the states parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption to implement the obligations contained therein and assist them to do so, and to assist countries in evaluating anti-corruption legislation, promote transparency and integrity.
It is worth noting that the Kingdom is a state party to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption after its ratification in accordance with Cabinet Resolution No. (62) dated 02/03/1434 AH, and this conference is considered as the most prominent among the conferences related with fighting corruption and promoting integrity and transparency. The number of states parties in the agreement has more than 180 countries, and it aims to enhance international cooperation, evaluate anti-corruption legislations and promote integrity and transparency.
