Several explosions echoed across the Iraqi capital on Thursday as puffs of smoke rose above the heavily fortified Green Zone, witnesses said. There was no immediate indication of what caused the blasts. The so-called Green Zone houses Iraqi government offices and the U.S. Embassy in a huge area along the banks of the Tigris River.
