Asian stock markets fell Tuesday, AP reported. The Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.5% to 2,801.33, and Tokyo's Nikkei 225 tumbled 1.2% to 20,433.65. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1.2% to 25,524.86. Seoul's Kospi lost 0.7% to 1,928.80, while Sydney's S&P-ASX 200 was 0.3% lower at 6,579.70. Markets in New Zealand and Southeast Asia also retreated. Benchmark U.S. crude lost 13 cents to $54.80 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract gained 43 cents on Monday to close at $54.93. Brent crude, used to price international oils, declined 19 cents to $58.38 per barrel in London. It added 4 cents the previous session to $58.57. The dollar gained to 105.57 yen from Monday's 105.30 yen. The euro declined to $1.1188 from $1.1214.
