Burundian rebels attacked an army position just south of the capital in a clash that left three rebels dead and three soldiers wounded, an army spokesman said Tuesday. The fighters from the National Liberation Force, the last remaining rebel group in Burundi, launched the attack on the camp near Ruyaga, three kilometers (two miles) south of Bujumbura late Monday night. "Army checkpoints, which controlled the area from the surrounding hills, supported the soldiers in Ruyaga camp and pushed the attackers back into the hills," Cmdr. Adolphe Manirakiza said. The fighting continued into early Tuesday morning, he said.
