Pakistan's designated prime minister wants the dispute over Kashmir to be resolved according to the wishes of people living in the Himalayan region, which is divided between Pakistan and India. Shaukat Aziz, however, also said Saturday he intended to pursue peace talks with India, which began last year. "I think (the) Kashmir issue should be resolved keeping in view the wishes and priorities of Kashmiris," Aziz told Pakistan's independent Geo television in an interview on Saturday. But he added: "After taking over as prime minister, I will continue peace talks with India." Both nations in recent months have taken steps to improve relations, with senior Pakistani and Indian officials meeting to discuss contentious issues such as Kashmir. Aziz is expected to be sworn-in as Pakistan's premier next week, after winning a by-election for a National Assembly seat on Wednesday.
