Taiwan said on Thursday it will tighten restrictions on Chinese tourists after 14 Chinese tourists disappeared Wednesday night, probably to work illegally in Taiwan. "We must come up with policies to prevent mainland tourists from running away, otherwise such incidents will keep happening," Interior Minister Su Chia-chuan instructed the Mainland Affairs Council and other government units. Su also urged Taiwan residents to report to police Chinese tourists who work illegally in Taiwan. The 14 Chinese tourists - from Fujian Province - arrived in Taiwan Wednesday evening via Bangkok for a seven-day tour. After they had checked into a hotel in Taoyuan, a satellite city of Taiwan, 14 tourists left the hotel and vanished. This is the second case of mainland tourists leaving their tour group to stay and work illegally in Taiwan since July when 17 mainland tourists disappeared shortly after they arrived. Police have only caught four of the missing 17 tourists and are still hunting for the others. Taiwan still bans mainlanders from entering Taiwan but allows mainland tour groups visiting foreign countries to visit Taiwan.
