The World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed the US $ 240 million contribution of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to provide food assistance to the Yemeni people. In a statement issued in Cairo by its regional office, WFP said that Yemen faces a severe shortage of food, in the holy month of Ramadan, and this generous contribution will help Yemenis practice their customs and traditions. WFP plans to use this contribution to provide millions of families with monthly food rations of flour, oil, sugar and salt, noting that in urban areas where markets are still operating, families will receive food vouchers to purchase these rations through local traders, which will also support the local economy.
