Suspected Taliban rebels launched an attack early Sunday on a security checkpost in a southern province, killing six Afghan soldiers before fleeing into the night, police said. Police were investigating the raid that happened around 2 a.m. in Maivand district, about 70 kilometers (40 miles) northwest of Kandahar city, said the Kandahar province police chief, Khan Mohammed. "Taliban came in vehicles, opened fire on the security checkpost and fled," Khan said.
