Britain Saturday condemned the killing of 130 people during a raid on the Gatumba camp in Burundi, which shelters refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. "We are shocked by this terrible incident and our thoughts go out to those who have been touched by this tragedy," the Foreign Office said. Britain was maintaining contact with United Nations personnel monitoring the situation, an official statement said. "This sad occurrence points up the need for a healing process in the Great Lakes region, which we hope the proposed Great Lakes conference will assist," it added. U.N. officials have estimated the death toll in the raid, which took place Friday night, at around 150, with a further 100 wounded. The victims are ethnic Tutsis who fled the DRC in June. The Hutu FNL (National Liberation Forces), a rebel group active in Burundi, has reportedly admitted responsibility for the attack.
